Starting in 1988, during
the month of December,
my late husband and I
made trips into the Mexican
interior taking gifts
to children that otherwise
might not have received
a toy for Christmas. Our
travels often took us
as many as 2,500 miles
in a single month. We
went to many remote villages
that could be reached
only by horseback or 4-wheel
drive vehicle. We also
visited small ranches
and large cities. Everywhere
we visited, the Gospel
was presented and the
children were given an
opportunity to accept
Christ before any gifts
were distributed. We saw
many children come to
Christ during these annual
trips.
My husband went home to
Heaven in February 2006.
He was sick for two years
before he died and we
decided to discontinue
the long distance trips
and concentrate our efforts
in the Monterrey area.
In 2004 with the help
of the church members
and Bible Institute students
at Mt. Hebron Baptist
Church in Monterrey, we
prepared 4,000 gift bags.
In 2005 we increased that
number to 5,000.
After Aaron passed away,
I wanted to continue the
annual Bible Clubs and
was blessed to be able
to prepare 6,000 bags
in 2006! The students
divided into teams and
held Bible Clubs all over
the city of Monterrey
and surrounding areas.
Over 2000 precious children
and many adults accepted
Christ as their Saviour.
In December of 2007, I
was able to prepare almost
4000 gift bags. Twenty
nine teams held Bible
Clubs on December 9th
and over 1500 children
and adults professed Christ
as their Saviour.
The penny offerings from
the summer Vacation Bible
School programs have helped
finance this effort along
with special designated
offerings from churches
and individuals. If you
would like to donate to
this project, you may
send a check to Central
Baptist Church, 122 W.
Filmore, Harlingen, TX
78550. Be sure to include
a note “Barbara Davis
Bible Clubs” on the check
or enclosure so that it
will be deposited to the
right account. Please
make the check payable
to Central Baptist Church.
